Neil Gaiman
Biography
Neil Gaiman is an English writer of novels, comics, short fiction and screenplays. Born in Portchester, he began his career in the early 1980s as a journalist, interviewing and reviewing before his first professional short story appeared in 1984. After befriending Alan Moore, he turned to comics, and his series The Sandman, published from 1989 to 1996, became one of DC's best-selling titles. His novels include the collaboration with Terry Pratchett, Good Omens (1990), Stardust (1999), American Gods (2001), Coraline (2002), The Graveyard Book (2008) and The Ocean at the End of the Lane (2013). He has won Hugo, Nebula and Bram Stoker awards plus Newbery and Carnegie medals, becoming the first author to take both the Newbery and Carnegie for the same book. He wrote the 1996 BBC series Neverwhere, episodes of Doctor Who and the Good Omens adaptation, and voiced Gef in Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose (2023).

Gaiman sometimes wrote under pseudonyms during his journalism years, including Gerry Musgrave and Richard Grey, and also used a couple of house names.
A role that slipped away
Gaiman and Jamie Delano withdrew from Swamp Thing after DC decided to censor Rick Veitch's final storyline on the title.
