Trailer

Plot summary

A documentary turns the grievances of Star Wars fans into a case for the prosecution. Filmmakers and critics, academics, writers of science fiction and fantasy, former colleagues of George Lucas and longtime devotees all take part. Their complaints run in three directions. The first concerns the digital alterations made to the original trilogy and the absence of the earlier versions from release. The second is disappointment with the later trilogy, its story, its characters and its reworking of the mythology. The third is the money Lucas has drawn from the franchise through film revenue and merchandise. Fan films sent to the production, among them work from Star Wars Uncut, sit alongside the interviews, which consider whether the saga belongs to its maker or to the public that adopted it. Lucas appears in archival footage but is never interviewed.
