Biography

Monica Evans is an English actress and comedian. Born in England in 1940, she attended the Central School of Speech and Drama during the 1950s and worked as Joan Plowright's stand-in in Rhinoceros before later taking over that part. Her best-known character was Cecily Pigeon in Neil Simon's The Odd Couple; she stayed with the original Broadway production for its whole run, appeared in the 1968 film adaptation, and then played the role in a number of first-season episodes of the television series, with Carole Shelley as her sister Gwendolyn. For Walt Disney Productions she voiced Abigail Gabble in The Aristocats (1970) and Maid Marian in Robin Hood (1973), again acting opposite Shelley. She was among the stars of the BBC Television soap opera Compact and starred in The Severed Head in the West End.
