Michael Rupert
Biography
Michael Rupert is a Denver-born performer who acts, sings, writes music and directs. He began on Broadway at 16 in 1968, playing Bibi Bonnard in The Happy Time, which brought him a Theater World Award and a Tony nomination. He later spent three years on Broadway in the title part of Pippin, starting in 1974. He was the first Marvin in William Finn's March of the Falsettos, Falsettoland and Falsettos, earning him a 1992 Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Musical. In 1986 he won a Tony as a featured actor in a musical for Sweet Charity. He also originated Professor Callahan in Legally Blonde (2007). His screen credits include the 1975 film A Boy and His Dog and guest spots on series such as Cheers and Law & Order. He wrote scores for Mail and 3 Guys Naked from the Waist Down, and directed Off-Broadway productions including The Lunch Anxieties and Thrill Me: Leopold & Loeb Story.

First role
Rupert was 16 when he first appeared on Broadway, playing young Bibi Bonnard in the 1968 Kander and Ebb musical The Happy Time. That performance brought him a 1968 Theater World Award and his first Tony nomination, for Featured Actor in a Musical.
A first
Rupert was the first to play Marvin in two musicals by William Finn: March of the Falsettos in 1981 at the Off-Broadway Playwrights Horizons, and Falsettoland in 1990, which opened at Playwrights Horizons and later moved to the Lucille Lortel Theater.

Rupert wrote the music for Mail, a musical staged in 1988, and he was also the first actor to play the part of Alex in that show.
