Marguerite De La Motte
Biography
Marguerite De La Motte was an American actress of the silent era, born in Duluth, Minnesota, and trained in ballet under Anna Pavlova. She graduated from Frank Egan's school of drama before becoming a dance star on the stage of Sid Grauman's theater in 1919, and she first appeared on screen in 1918 in the Douglas Fairbanks-directed romantic comedy Arizona. During the 1920s she appeared in many films, often cast by Fairbanks opposite him in swashbuckling adventures such as The Mark of Zorro (1920) and The Three Musketeers. Her acting work slowed sharply as silent pictures gave way to sound, though she took bit parts and made a final appearance in Overland Mail in 1942. She later worked in a California war plant and in a Red Cross office, and in 1960 received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
