Madge Evans
Biography
Madge Evans was an American actress of theater, film, radio and television. Born in Manhattan in 1909, she began working as a child model and performer, appearing by age two in magazine advertisements for Fairy Soap, and at four she acted in children's plays staged by William A. Brady. At eight she was in Peter Ibbetson on Broadway alongside John Barrymore, and at 17 she returned to the stage as an ingenue in Daisy Mayme. She joined Metro Goldwyn Mayer in 1927 and spent much of the 1930s in ingenue parts, usually as the leading man's fiancee. Her studio pictures included Dinner at Eight (1933), and in 1933 James Cagney was her co-star in the melodrama The Mayor of Hell. She also appeared in David Copperfield (1935). Later she found work in New York City radio and television, and in 1960 the motion picture industry awarded her a Hollywood Walk of Fame star on Vine Street.
