Mabel Van Buren
Biography
Mabel Van Buren was an American actress who worked on both the stage and the screen. Born in Chicago, she played leading roles on stage, among them The Squaw Man (1909) and The Virginian, and later acted for the Kinemacolor Company of America. She rose to prominence in motion pictures as feature-length films developed in 1914, and Cecil B. Demille directed her in The Girl of the Golden West (1915) and brought her to Hollywood. Famous Players-Lasky, whose studio stood on Vine Street in Hollywood, made her its first leading lady. She took a notable late role as Mrs. Lee in Neighbor's Wives (1933), and kept acting in films until 1941. Prominent parts also came her way in Craig's Wife (1928), The Man From Home (1914) and The Warrens of Virginia (1915). She died in Los Angeles in 1947.
