Loni Love
Biography
Loni Love is an American comedian, actress, television host and author who was raised in the Brewster-Douglass housing projects in Detroit and first trained as an electrical engineer. She moved into stand-up in the early 2000s, was a regular at the Laugh Factory, and finished second on Star Search in 2003. Variety and Comedy Central both put her among the top ten comics to watch in 2009, and in 2010 Comedy Central aired America's Sister, her first hour-long special. She was a panelist on Chelsea Lately, and from 2013 until the show ended in 2022 she was a host on The Real, the syndicated daytime talk show. In 2018 the hosts of The Real shared a Daytime Emmy, and her film credits include Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 (2015) and Bad Ass 3: Bad Asses on the Bayou (2015).

Loni Love worked as an electrical engineer at Xerox for eight years, then resigned during a layoff so that a co-worker would not lose their job, in order to pursue comedy.
First role
Love discovered stand-up comedy while studying at Prairie View A&M University, where she won a $50 competition and then performed often during her college years.

After finishing at Cass Technical High School in 1989, Love spent time on a General Motors assembly line, fitting doors onto 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlasses. That work sparked her interest in electrical engineering.
Big break
Love's comedy career began in 2003 after she appeared on Star Search, reached the finals and lost a close competition to winner John Roy.
A change of course
Love took a role as CNN correspondent for D. L. Hughley Breaks the News in 2008, and she also reported on President Barack Obama's inauguration.
