Biography

Lenore Aubert was a model and Hollywood actress who often played women of mystery and exotic charm. Born in Celje, in what is now Slovenia, she grew up in Vienna. In New York she worked as a model and was given the role of Lorraine Sheldon in a La Jolla Playhouse production of The Man Who Came to Dinner. She entered American films in the early 1940s, adopting the French-sounding screen name Lenore Aubert. Her European accent shaped the parts she was offered, among them a spy for the Nazis and a bride from wartime France. Among her favorite roles was the glamorous performer Fritzi Barrington in I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now (1947). Her most widely known part came as the beautiful but sinister scientist Dr. Sandra Mornay in Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948). In 1950 she acted in an episode of the court series Famous Jury Trials. Her film work had mostly ended by the late 1940s.
