Joyce Brothers

Joyce Brothers was an American psychologist and television personality who also wrote advice columns and books. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Far Rockaway, Queens, she earned a doctorate in clinical psychology before her 1955 victory on The $64,000 Question brought her national attention. That fame led to a long broadcasting career in which she made psychological advice part of mainstream American media. She hosted programs including Living Easy with Dr. Joyce Brothers (1973) and the Dr. Joyce Brothers Show (1985), and she was a frequent talk show guest, appearing more than 90 times on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Her newspaper column reached more than 300 papers at its peak, and she contributed a monthly column to Good Housekeeping for nearly forty years. She appeared on screen as herself, and she took comic parts that sent up her image as a woman psychologist. In National Lampoon's: Loaded Weapon she played a crime scene pathologist, and she published books.
