Jonathan Hardy

Jonathan Hardy was a New Zealand-Australian actor, writer and director whose stage and screen career lasted more than 40 years. He grew up in Wellington and trained at the New Zealand Players' Drama School and at LAMDA in London, where he was a gold medal student. He worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre, returned home in 1966 on an RSC tour of The Comedy of Errors, and moved to Australia in 1972. He later spent five years as artistic director of Auckland's Mercury Theatre. With David Stevens and Bruce Beresford he co-wrote the screenplay for Breaker Morant, earning an Australian Film Institute Award in 1980 and an Academy Award nomination in 1981. His screen roles included a part in The Adventures of Barry McKenzie (1972) and The Devil's Playground (1977), which brought an Australian Film Institute nomination. He became known internationally as the voice of Dominar Rygel XVI in Farscape from 1999 to 2003.
