John Lazar

John La Zar is an American actor whose training came at the American Conservatory Theatre and under teachers such as Uta Hagen and Jack Kosslyn. He grew up in San Francisco and was performing the title role in a University of Hawaii staging of Caligula when a casting agent for 20th Century Fox arranged his audition for Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970), in which he played the unhinged music producer Ronnie Z-Man Barzell for Russ Meyer. Later parts were mostly small: the pimp Carl McKinney in Supervixens, a warlock in Night of the Scarecrow (1995), and a strip club customer in Stripteaser, while Deathstalker II (1987) gave him the bigger role of the sorcerer Jarek. He was also a regular as Dr. Fez on the cable show Click and acted on stage in plays including Macbeth, No Exit and Everyman.
