John Blundell
Biography
British actor John Blundell is known for his role as Daddy Pongo Banks in Scum. He originated the part in the BBC version that was banned in 1977, then returned for the cinema remake two years later. His character ran the inmates through intimidation until Carlin, played by Ray Winstone, overthrew him. Blundell was cast in Quadrophenia as the Rockers' Leader, again acting alongside Winstone, and in 1978 he took the part of O'Fred in Junket 89. He later worked across many television shows and appeared in feature films, among them Whoops Apocalypse and Nil by Mouth (1997), where Winstone again had the lead. He spent an extended period at the National Theatre, co-wrote and starred in the children's series You Must Be Joking from 1974 to 1976, and made numerous commercials. His agent Anna Scher dubbed him the Commercial King for the volume of advertisements he did.
