Jello Biafra

Jello Biafra is a singer, spoken word performer and songwriter from the United States who fronted the San Francisco punk group Dead Kennedys. Born in Boulder, Colorado, he answered an advertisement placed by guitarist East Bay Ray in 1978 and formed the band, writing sardonic lyrics and biting social commentary for singles like California Über Alles and Holiday in Cambodia and the first album was Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables. The EP In God We Trust, Inc. and the album Frankenchrist followed. Biafra co-founded the independent label Alternative Tentacles in 1979 and became its sole owner in 1986, the year Dead Kennedys disbanded. He had started performing spoken word in January 1986 and later released albums such as In the Grip of Official Treason. His other collaborations include Lard, D.O.A., Nomeansno and the Melvins, and he has taken cameo roles in films, including Tapeheads (1988).
