Janet Munro
Biography
Janet Munro was a British actress who started on stage as a child with her father, the comedian Alex Munro, and later took his stage name for her own career. Born in Blackpool in 1934, she worked in repertory before appearing on British television and in films such as The Trollenberg Terror (1958). Her breakthrough came when Disney cast her in Darby O'Gill and the Little People (1959); she won a Golden Globe for that role and went on to star in two more Disney films, Third Man on the Mountain (1959) and Swiss Family Robinson (1960). She also led the science fiction film The Day the Earth Caught Fire (1961) and earned a BAFTA nomination for Life for Ruth (1962). Later credits included British television and a lead in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (1969). She died in 1972.
