Irfan Mensur

Irfan Mensur is a Serbian actor of Bosnian descent who works in theater, television, and film. Born in Sarajevo in 1952, he began pursuing performing arts as a teenager with encouragement from his stage actress stepmother. He went on to study at the Academy of Theater, Film, Radio and Television in Belgrade under Minja Dedić. After early supporting parts in Yugoslav television movies and series, he took the role of Gavrilo Princip in The Day That Shook the World (1975), a Yugoslav, Czechoslovak, and West German co-production directed by Veljko Bulajić. The film centered on the 1914 assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo, reached cinemas in several countries, and received mixed reviews and limited box office success. Mensur later said he was unhappy with his own performance and felt the high-profile part made him widely recognized in Yugoslavia, leaving him to convince film and television colleagues that he was a capable actor.
