Guy Wilkerson
Biography
Guy Wilkerson was an American actor who specialized in Western B movies, usually in sidekick or comic supporting roles that suited his tall, lean build. He was born in Whitewright, Texas, and began his career as a dancer in 1914; his first screen part came in 1936, after a long stretch of trying to get a foothold in Hollywood, when he grew a beard. From 1942 to 1945 he played Panhandle Perkins, one of the three Texas Rangers, in all 22 films of that series, working alongside Dave O'Brien throughout, with James Newill in the first 14 and Tex Ritter in the last eight. By 1957 he had reached his 200th Western, Decision at Sundown. He went on to television, appearing in series such as Gunsmoke, The Lone Ranger, The Twilight Zone, Maverick, Thriller, The Fugitive and Green Acres. He died in 1971.
