Guy Doleman
Biography
Guy Doleman was a New Zealand-born actor who worked in Australia, Britain and the United States. He was born in Hamilton, New Zealand, and later moved to Australia. Through the 1940s and 1950s he was among the busiest performers in Australian film, and he became a radio star through the drama Hagen's Circus. His performance in the radio play The Coward earned him a £300 Actor's Choice Award in 1952, money he used to travel to Hollywood in September 1953. In London from the early 1960s, he won recognition as Count Lippe in the Bond adventure Thunderball (1965), and he played Colonel Ross across three Harry Palmer spy adaptations led by Michael Caine between 1965 and 1967. He also portrayed Number Two in the television show The Prisoner (1967). Stage credits included Little Lambs Eat Ivy and Edward, My Son, and his early Australian films included The Phantom Stockman (1953).

A role that slipped away
Guy Doleman was cast in Long John Silver (1954) but turned down the role because it required him to wear contact lenses, and Rod Taylor took the part instead.
A first
In the TV series The Prisoner, Doleman played Number Two. He was the first of two Number Twos in the first episode, "Arrival"; George Baker played the second.
A change of course
In the 1940s and 1950s, Doleman ranked among Australia's busiest actors, turning up in most of the films made there then. Radio kept him busy too, especially the drama Hagen's Circus, which turned him into a radio star in Australia.
