Gloria DeHaven

Gloria DeHaven, born in Los Angeles to two former vaudeville performers, was a singer and actress who became a contract star at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. She started out as a child, playing a small part in Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times (1936). At MGM she took featured roles in films including Summer Stock (1950), Scene of the Crime (1949), The Thin Man Goes Home (1944) and Best Foot Forward (1943), and in 1944 exhibitors voted her the third most likely star of tomorrow. In Three Little Words (1950), a Fred Astaire film, she played her own mother. After years away from the screen she returned as Jack Lemmon's love interest in the comedy Out to Sea (1997). She also performed with Jan Savitt's band and Bob Crosby's band and had her own nightclub act. Her Broadway debut came in 1955 with Seventh Heaven, and she later worked in the soap operas Ryan's Hope and As the World Turns. She died in 2016.
