Gary Shail

Gary Shail is a London-born actor who also works as a director, producer and musician. He started in television and film in 1977. He became known for playing Spider in Quadrophenia (1979) and Steve, a punk teenager, in The Metal Mickey TV Show. Other early roles included Oscar Drill in Shock Treatment (1981) and Guy Raines in the BBC's Johnny Jarvis (1983), for which he wrote songs and theme music and received an Ivor Novello Award nomination. He appeared as Billy White in the 1988 miniseries Jack the Ripper and had parts in The Bill, Casualty and The Professionals. In 1995 he began working with Natural Sound Source, producing music for television, film and advertising, and in 2004 he made the Arabic fusion album Infinity in Dubai. He published a memoir in 2015 and returned to acting in 2016 in Stranger, then starred in To be someone in 2019. He also composes and produces music.
