Frank Windsor

Frank Windsor was an English actor known chiefly for his television roles, above all policeman John Watt in Z-Cars from 1962 to 1965 and the follow-up series Softly, Softly and its Task Force continuation, plus Jack the Ripper and Second Verdict, returning for the final episode in 1978. Born in Walsall, he trained in speech and drama at London's Central School of Speech and Drama. His lighter side showed in the pilot of The Dustbinmen in 1968 and in an episode of The Goodies, and he appeared in the pilot of Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) in 1969. He headlined the comedy drama Flying Lady between 1987 and 1989, and played an old-fashioned headmaster in Headmaster, which began as a Play for Today in 1974 and became a six-part series in 1977. Later roles included regular parts in Casualty and Peak Practice, Major Charlie Grace in EastEnders in 1992, and two Doctor Who appearances, plus stage work.
