Florence Kasumba
Biography
Born in Kampala and raised in Essen, Florence Kasumba is a Ugandan-born German actress best known for playing Ayo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She trained in acting, singing, and dancing at Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Tilburg and landed her first professional film role while still in college, in the Dutch movie Ik ook van jou. She performed in musicals including Chicago, Cats, and West Side Story, and took the title role in Germany's premiere of Aida. Kasumba made her Marvel debut in Captain America: Civil War (2016) as a security guard for Black Panther, drawing praise for a brief scene with Black Widow. She later played Ayo in Black Panther (2018), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021), and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022). Her other screen credits include Wonder Woman (2017), The Lion King (2019), and Emerald City (2017). She was nominated for an International Rising Star award in 2016.
