Biography
Fares Fares is a Swedish actor, producer and director who began acting in a local theater group in Örebro as a teenager and later trained at drama school in Mölnlycke. He made his film debut in Jalla! Jalla! (2000) and Kops (2003), both directed by his brother Josef Fares, and appeared in the Swedish thriller Easy Money. His Hollywood credits include Safe House (2012), Zero Dark Thirty, Child 44 (2015), and the role of Senator Vaspar in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016). Fares learned Danish for The Keeper of Lost Causes and starred in the first four Department Q adaptations. He worked repeatedly with director Tarik Saleh, starring in the Cairo trilogy, including Boy from Heaven (2022), and appearing in Metropia (2009). On television he appeared in Tyrant, Westworld, Chernobyl, and The Wheel of Time. He directed A Day and a Half (2023) and has won a Guldbagge Award and two Robert Awards.

Fares Fares picked up Danish in just two months for his role in The Keeper of Lost Causes, a 2013 movie set in Denmark. That movie launched a series of ten features drawn from Jussi Adler-Olsen's Department Q novels.
Behind the camera
Fares produced a miniseries for the first time in 2020, Partisan. In 2023 he directed his first film, A Day and a Half, a Netflix original loosely based on a real story.
A role that slipped away
Fares and Nikolaj Lie Kaas were in the first four Department Q films, which Zentropa produced. After Nordisk Film bought the rights, other actors took over their parts.

Fares began acting with a local theater group in Örebro at 15. At 19 he went to drama school in Mölnlycke, which is near Gothenburg, Sweden.
