Ekin Cheng

Biography

Ekin Cheng, born October 4, 1967, is a Hong Kong film actor and Cantopop singer. He began in commercials while in high school for Hi-C Lemon Tea, then trained at TVB's martial arts and acting schools. His first movie was Girls Without Tomorrow (1992), when he was still billed as Dior Cheng. He later became Ekin before his breakout as Chan Ho Nam in Young and Dangerous (1996), which led to six sequels and a long partnership with director Andrew Lau. Their The Storm Riders (1998) was the highest-grossing Hong Kong film of its time and an early large-scale user of special effects. Their other collaborations included Women From Mars, a comedy, plus The Duel, A Man Called Hero and The Legend of Speed. Cheng branched into comedies such as Six Strong Guys and My Wife is 18 and action films like The Twins Effect and Tokyo Raiders, and he filmed a mainland serial about Huo Yuanjia with Jordan Chan.
