Eileen Colgan
Biography
Eileen Colgan was an Irish actress who worked in theater, television and film, starting out on Dublin stages before moving to London for television and radio work. Born in Enniskerry, she belonged to the Abbey Theatre Players in Dublin for many years, acting with the company from 1971 until 1988, and she performed on stage in Tokyo as well. In 1973 she received a Jacob's Award, named best television performance by an actress for Hatchet. On television she was best known for her recurring part as Esther Roche in the RTÉ soap Fair City, and she played Mynah, a priest's housekeeper, in Glenroe. Among her other television work were Ballykissangel, The Hanging Gale and Strumpet City. Her films included Quackser Fortune Has a Cousin in the Bronx (1970), My Left Foot (1989) and The Secret of Roan Inish (1994), plus Far and Away, Angela's Ashes and Tara Road.
