Ed Herlihy

Ed Herlihy was an American newsreel narrator and a radio and television announcer, born in Boston and a 1932 graduate of Boston College. He took his first radio job in Boston at WLOE, then joined NBC in 1935 and moved to New York, where he announced radio programs from the 1930s into the 1950s, among them The Big Show, The Falcon, Mr. District Attorney and Just Plain Bill. In 1948 he became host of The Horn and Hardart Children's Hour and remained its announcer when the show moved to television; his early television work also included Your Show of Shows, As the World Turns and All My Children. Beginning in 1947 he was the voice of Kraft Foods for nearly 40 years, and he narrated Universal newsreels in the 1940s. In the 1980s Woody Allen cast him in Hannah and Her Sisters and Radio Days, and his film credits included The King of Comedy (1982) and Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985).
