Doris Nolan
Biography
Doris Nolan was an American actress known for Broadway work and the film Holiday. Born in New Rochelle, New York, she began acting in high school and joined the Provincetown Players in 1933. A talent scout noticed her in a Poughkeepsie theater production, leading to a Fox Film Corporation contract. Fox cast her in Our Little Girl but dropped her after a botched scene, so she turned to Broadway. At seventeen she took the lead in Night of January 16th for Al Woods and earned positive reviews. She later signed with Universal Pictures and alternated between stage and screen. Her most prominent film was Holiday (1938), with Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant. She then spent eighteen months in The Doughgirls and ended her Broadway career with The Closing Door. In the early 1950s she moved to the UK, where she did regional theater and television, including The Saint and Brideshead Revisited.
