Donnie Dunagan
Biography
Donnie Dunagan is an American actor whose other career was in the U.S. Marine Corps, rising to major. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he was a small child when his family settled in Memphis, Tennessee, where he won a $100 talent contest at three and a half. A talent scout spotted him, the family moved to Hollywood, and he began appearing in films, soon becoming the family's main earner. He was the child actor who played Baron Frankenstein's young son in Son of Frankenstein (1939) and voiced young Bambi in Walt Disney's Bambi (1942), after which he left voice acting. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1952 at 18, served three tours in Vietnam, and retired as a major in 1977, earning a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts. He kept his acting career secret during his service and was found out shortly before retirement. In 2004 horror film historian Tom Weaver interviewed him for Video Watchdog.
