Dolores Sutton
Biography
Dolores Sutton built a seven-decade career as an American actress, playwright and writer working in theater, film and television. Born in New York City, she earned a degree in philosophy at New York University in 1948. While studying for a master's she wrote the radio script Siblings, which NBC bought, and she voiced a part in it. Sophie Treadwell chose her in 1960 for the lead in a revival of Machinal, a role that brought her the Vernon Rice Citation. She acted in experimental theater and with the National Repertory Company, took leading roles on Broadway in Rhinoceros, General Seeger and My Fair Lady, and turned Thomas Wolfe's The Web and the Rock into a stage play in which she starred. Her films included The Trouble with Angels (1966), Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows (1968), Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) and Tales from the Darkside: The Movie (1990). Sutton died in 2009.
