Diana Chesney

Biography

Diana Chesney was an actress whose work took her across British movies, American television, and the stage for about fifty years. She trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and made her British stage debut in a touring production of Show Boat during the 1940s. Her British screen work ran to more than forty television and film credits, among them Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, The King and I, in which she appeared with Yul Brynner, In the Doghouse, Gideon's Way, and Mark Saber. In 1961 she was cast as Sybil Finch on the CBS sitcom Fair Exchange, playing the British mother in a family that traded daughters with an American family. She also turned up twice on Bewitched, as Aunt Hagatha in 1965 and Aunt Enchantra in 1971. Her best-known parts were Sybil Finch and the voice of Mrs. Judson in the Disney film The Great Mouse Detective (1986). She died in 2004.
