Deborah Allen

Deborah Allen is a country singer and songwriter who grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, and moved to Nashville at nineteen. She started out singing background vocals for Roy Orbison, then performed as a soloist and dancer at the Opryland USA theme park and on a State Department tour of Russia. After the songwriter Shel Silverstein urged her to focus on writing, she recorded duets with Jim Reeves that became country top 10 singles. Signed by Capitol Records in 1980, she landed her first solo hit, Nobody's Fool, on the album Trouble in Paradise. Baby I Lied, released in 1983, was her only crossover hit, charting at number four in country and number twenty-six on the pop Hot 100. I've Been Wrong Before earned her Grammy nominations, and she wrote number one country songs for Janie Fricke and John Conlee. She played herself in the 1993 film The Thing Called Love and sang on its soundtrack.
