David Kossoff

British actor David Kossoff began his stage career at the Unity Theatre in 1942 after earlier work as a draftsman and furniture designer. In 1953 he played Lemuel Barnet in the science fiction radio serial Journey into Space, and the following year he earned a British Academy Film Award for most promising newcomer for his performance as Geza Szobek in The Young Lovers. On television he was best known for playing Alf Larkin, a hen-pecked husband in the sitcom The Larkins, which began in 1958, and for a furniture maker in A Little Big Business. His films included the Oscar-winning The Bespoke Overcoat (1956). In The Mouse That Roared (1959) he had the role of Professor Kokintz, and he returned for its follow-up The Mouse on the Moon (1963). He also appeared as Sigmund Freud's father in Freud: The Secret Passion (1962). He became known for retelling Bible stories, with The Book of Witnesses (1971) presenting the Gospels as monologues.
