Biography

Damien Richardson is an Australian actor who studied Australian cinema and theater along with political science at Flinders University in Adelaide, the city of his birth, and graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts in 1991. With Luke Elliot he co-wrote The Belly of the Whale, staged at the Melbourne Fringe Festival in 1996, where it won the festival's Best New Comedy-Drama award, and he starred in the crime film The Hard Word (2002) as one of three bank-robbing brothers. He is known for playing Detective Matt Ryan in City Homicide from 2007 to 2011 and Gary Canning in Neighbours from 2014 to 2020, and he appeared as Drew Greer, a lawyer, in the Jack Irish television films (2012). His other credits include the films Rogue (2007) and Noise (2007), guest roles in Blue Heelers and McLeod's Daughters, and an Australian Film Institute nomination in 2003 for The Secret Life of Us. He retired from acting in 2021.
