Cyril Luckham

Cyril Luckham was an English actor who worked in theater, television and film. He was born in Salisbury and educated at Dartmouth, then spent a short time in the Royal Navy before training for the stage at the Arthur Brough school in Folkestone. His debut came with Brough's company in The Admirable Crichton in 1935. After building experience in regional repertory, including a stretch with the Rapier Players in Bristol, he made his West End debut in 1945 as Torvald Helmer in A Doll's House. Later stage work took him back to the provinces, among it a tour with the Old Vic. On television he was a character actor. He played the White Guardian in Doctor Who, Sir Hugh Archibald-Lake in The Wednesday Play, and Sir Lawrence Mont in The Forsyte Saga. Roles included the puppet prime minister in The Guardians, Edward Drexel in The Omega Factor, and, in Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, Father O'Hara. He died in 1989.
