Claudia Drake
Biography
Claudia Drake was an American actress and singer whose career began in childhood, when she appeared in comedy films alongside Fatty Arbuckle and Ben Turpin at age three. At five she and her sister Ella formed a vaudeville duo, the La Marr sisters, and they performed in vaudeville. She later worked as a chorus girl for the Warner studio after misstating her age, and in Footlight Parade (1933) she supplied swimming sequences for Ruby Keeler. Busby Berkeley heard her sing at a casino and arranged a Warner Bros. contract. She played the leading lady in Hopalong Cassidy Westerns and handled her own riding and shooting without stunt doubles. Through the 1940s and 1950s she took leading and supporting parts in many B movies, mostly Westerns. Among her supporting parts was Sue Harvey in the film noir Detour (1945). In the 1950s she appeared in various television series in the United States.
