Chris Ashworth
Biography
Chris Ashworth is an actor known for his role as Sergei Malatov, also called The Russian, on HBO's The Wire. Born and raised in the Virginia countryside, he first began his career in New York City, where he tried modeling and then commercial work. He landed several parts in independent films while traveling to auditions. A call from Baltimore casting director Pat Moran led to his breakthrough: she was casting The Wire and needed someone to play a volatile Ukrainian thug. Though he had no training and had never been to Russia or Ukraine, Ashworth used an accent to convince HBO he was Ukrainian. He became a fan favorite and appeared in eleven episodes, ten of them in the second season. He went on to appear in many other television shows and films.
