Cem Yilmaz

Biography

Cem Yilmaz is a Turkish comedian and actor who first drew comics for the humor magazine Leman while studying tourism and hotel management at Bogazici University. He began performing stand-up in August 1995 at the Leman Culture Center, and after audiences responded well he moved to the Besiktas Cultural Center, where he played more than a thousand shows. His screen career started with Everything's Gonna Be Great (1998), followed by Vizontele (2001). He wrote and starred in the science fiction parody G.O.R.A. (2004), a box-office hit that Rekin Teksoy described as a sign of popular cinema's wide appeal. Magic Carpet Ride (2005) brought him the Best Supporting Actor prize at the 11th Sadri Alisik Awards, and his directing debut, The Magician (2006), earned him Best Actor at the 34th edition of the Brussels International Independent Film Festival. Later came A.R.O.G (2008), Yahsi Bati (2009), and CM101MMXI Fundamentals (2013), after which he stepped back from stand-up.
