Carlos Palomino
Biography
Carlos Palomino is a Mexican former professional boxer and actor who won the WBC welterweight championship in 1976 and later built a second career on screen. Born in San Luis Río Colorado, he moved to Los Angeles at ten and was an All-U.S. Army champion in 1971 and 1972 before winning the 1972 National AAU light welterweight title. He took the world title from John H. Stracey in London in June 1976 and defended it against the likes of Armando Muñíz and Dave Boy Green before losing to Wilfred Benítez in 1979, and he retired after a loss to Roberto Durán that same year. A brief comeback from 1997 to 1998 ended in a second retirement, and in 2004 he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. He appeared in Taxi, The White Shadow and Star Trek: Voyager, and in films including Fists of Steel.
