Bobby Flay

Biography

Bobby Flay is a chef, food writer, restaurateur, and television personality who was born and grew up in New York City. He left high school at 17 and took early restaurant jobs before a position at Joe Allen in Manhattan led the owner to pay his tuition at the French Culinary Institute, where he earned a culinary arts degree in 1984. After working as a sous-chef, he was executive chef at Miracle Grill from 1988 to 1990, then became executive chef and later a partner at Mesa Grill. Jonathan Waxman had introduced him to southwestern cooking, which shaped his career. Since 1995 he has appeared on Food Network, hosted seventeen cooking shows and specials, served as an Iron Chef on Iron Chef America, and won four Daytime Emmy Awards and a Hollywood Walk of Fame star. His screen appearances include a cameo in Eddie's Million Dollar Cook-Off (2003) and a role in Scooby-Doo! and the Gourmet Ghost (2018).
