Billy Curtis

Biography

Billy Curtis was an American film and television actor whose entertainment career lasted about fifty years. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, he worked in a store after finishing high school, then joined a local stock theater company, and before his film work he performed in vaudeville as an acrobat and wrestled professionally. He doubled for child stars, and the bulk of his screen roles came in westerns and science fiction. An early uncredited part was in The Wizard of Oz (1939), and he was among the circus troupe in Alfred Hitchcock's Saboteur (1942). He appeared in Superman and the Mole Men (1951) and The Terror of Tiny Town (1938), played Mordecai in Clint Eastwood's High Plains Drifter (1973), and starred in Little Cigars (1973). He also played Mayor McCheese and acted on Broadway in Anything Goes (1934) and Every Man for Himself (1940).
