Billie Mae Richards
Biography
Billie Mae Richards worked as a Canadian actress and voice actress, building a career on radio, animation, and television. Born in Toronto, she trained at the Lorne Greene Academy of Radio Arts and performed in radio dramas for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, speaking and singing. Between 1950 and 1956, she voiced the Kid on the radio series Jake and the Kid. She was best known as the voice of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, a role she played for Rankin/Bass from 1964 to 1979, including Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964) and its sequels. Richards also provided the voice of Tenderheart Bear for the first two Care Bears movies and the DIC television series, and voiced Brightheart Raccoon in Nelvana's Care Bears series. Her other credits included the original Spider-Man television series, other Rankin/Bass animated productions, puppet voices in Canadian TV shows, and guest roles on Maniac Mansion and My Secret Identity. She died in 2010.
