Bill Hickman

Bill Hickman was an American stunt driver, stunt coordinator, and actor who worked in film from the 1950s into the late 1970s. Born in Los Angeles in 1921, he began as a stuntman and was already established by the time The Wild One was made. He was best known for the car chase in Bullitt (1968), in which he played one of the hit men and drove a black Dodge Charger through San Francisco. In The French Connection (1971), the Best Picture Oscar winner, he played federal agent Mulderig and handled a high-risk chase. He also performed a chase for The Seven-Ups (1973), appeared as Patton's driver in Patton (1970), and had roles in Zabriskie Point (1970), Hickey & Boggs (1972), and The War Between Men and Women (1972). His later work included stunt coordination on films such as The Hindenburg and Capricorn One, and he died in 1986.
