Artel Great

Artel Great is an American actor and filmmaker who was born in Chicago and moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting, landing early roles in Light It Up (1999) and Save the Last Dance (2001). His best known part is Rodney in Dahmer (2002), David Jacobson's film about the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, opposite Jeremy Renner and Bruce Davison, and his performance brought him an Independent Spirit Award nomination for best debut performance. He reunited with Jacobson for Down in the Valley (2005) and appeared in the television movie Their Eyes Were Watching God (2005) and The Soloist. He studied film at UCLA, graduating summa cum laude, and later earned a master's degree there before becoming a Cinema Research Institute fellow at New York University, where he created the Project Catalyst app. He has taught film studies at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and at San Francisco State University he teaches African-American cinema studies.
