Anthony Sagar
Biography
The English actor Anthony Sagar, a member of the National Theatre, built his early career largely in film and on stage. Born in Burnley, Lancashire, he was 36 when he took his first television part, in Dixon of Dock Green, and he stayed with police dramas such as Z-Cars, Special Branch and New Scotland Yard. He was a prolific screen performer with seven Carry On films among his credits, and he also appeared in I Was Monty's Double (1958) and as Hill in The Offence (1973). His television work took in Steptoe and Son, The Avengers and the sitcom Dad's Army, and he played a police sergeant in the film version of that series (1971). On stage he worked with the National Theatre at the Young Vic, in Epitaph for George Dillon, in 1971.
