Andrew Divoff
Biography
Andrew Divoff is a Venezuelan actor and producer who has specialized in screen villains, often playing terrorists, crime bosses and drug cartel figures. Born in Venezuela, he used a multilingual background to win early roles after taking acting lessons. His first film work included Neon Maniacs (1986), and his breakthrough came as the outlaw biker Cherry Ganz in Another 48 Hrs. (1990), which allowed him to stop driving a limousine and act full time. He followed with antagonist parts in Toy Soldiers (1991) and A Low Down Dirty Shame (1994). In 1997 he appeared in Air Force One and as the Djinn in Wishmaster, a role he reprised in Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies (1999). On television he played Mikhail Bakunin in Lost and Karakurt in The Blacklist, and he also appeared in horror films such as The Rage (2007) and The Hatred (2017).

First role
Divoff's first role was a Russian guard in a 1986 episode of Misfits of Science. He got the part through a telephone audition, where he screamed "Stop that truck!" in Russian, then in English with a Russian accent.
Big break
Divoff landed his breakthrough part in 1990, playing the outlaw biker "Cherry Ganz" in Another 48 Hrs. He got the call telling him he had won the role while he was on vacation in Berlin.
Own stunts
Divoff performed his own stunts so often, notably as a Russian terrorist henchman in Air Force One, that people often assumed he had been a professional stuntman, which he was not.
Behind the camera
Divoff and a friend wrote a script for Wishmaster: The Third Millennium with a Y2K theme, but it was not optioned and he did not return for the third or fourth films.
A change of course
After he came back to California, Divoff took a job as a dispatcher for a limousine company, and by 1983 he had become a limo driver. He spent his evenings off taking acting lessons.
