Aleksandr Demyanenko
Biography
Aleksandr Demyanenko was a Russian actor who grew up around his father's acting classes in Sverdlovsk and trained at the Moscow Theatre Institute, GITIS, graduating in 1959. He was cast in a supporting role in the film Veter (1958) while still a student. After moving to Leningrad, he took a permanent post at the Lenfilm Studio, where he did voice work in more than a hundred Russian and foreign films. He became famous for playing Shurik in three comedies directed by Leonid Gayday: Operation Y and Other Shurik's Adventures (1965), Kidnapping, Caucasian Style (1967), and Ivan Vasilievich: Back to the Future (1973), the last of which sends its characters to the Moscow of Ivan the Terrible. He also worked on stage, including at the Akimov Theatre of Comedy and the St. Petersburg Theatre Priyut Komedianta from 1995 to 1999. He died in 1999.
