Plot summary
Lola's boyfriend Manni is a bagman who delivers 100,000 marks for his boss Ronnie. He calls her frantically: he had fled ticket inspectors on the U-Bahn, the bag stayed on the train, and he spotted a homeless man going through it as the carriage left. Ronnie will kill him in twenty minutes unless he has the money, so Manni prepares to rob a supermarket nearby. Lola begs him to wait and sets off for the bank where her father works, running past a man with a dog on the stairwell of her building. Small turns of timing along the way send the same twenty minutes down three different paths.

- For the casino scene, Tom Tykwer had production designer Alexander Manasse paint Kim Novak as she appeared in Vertigo. Manasse could not remember her face, so he painted the famous shot of the back of her head; the painting took 15 minutes.
- Nintendo producer Eiji Aonuma cited Run Lola Run as a major influence while working on the story of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, taking its time limit concept as inspiration for the game.
