Plot summary

A black cat named Rudolf has never left his home in Gifu, where a girl named Rie cares for him. When Rie's mother sends her out to carry food to her grandmother, Rudolf follows her out of the house, gets on the wrong side of a fishmonger and climbs inside a truck. A broom thrown after him knocks him out. He wakes far from Gifu, gets out of the truck and meets Ippai-attena, a large bengal cat who lets him sleep under a temple. Ippai-attena is a boss cat the town fears, and with no way back to Gifu, Rudolf stays with him.
