Plot summary
Ray leaves a dead-end position at a Soho sex shop and becomes a roadie for The Clash. His invented story is the fictional thread in a film that also records real public events, including political demonstrations. The film also shows the band at an anti-racism concert in Victoria Park, on tour, and in the studio while recording Give 'Em Enough Rope.

- After seeing a rough cut, the Clash turned against Rude Boy: for the film's official cinema release they had Better Badges make badges reading 'I don't want Rude Boy Clash Film'.
- Joe Strummer told Melody Maker in 1980 that the film was no good and that the Clash disliked its use of black people, shown dipping into pockets and being done for something as their only role, which he called a load of rubbish.
- Strummer said the Clash had no further contact with directors Dave Mingay and Jack Hazan after the film was shot, and never received any payments from them.
