Plot summary

Richard Pryor performs a live stand-up set in Long Beach, California, at the Terrace Theater, recorded on December 10, 1978. It is the second of his stand-up performances to be filmed. He works through monologues about race, sex, and family, with himself as the target of many of the jokes. The film is a record of that performance alone; it was the first feature-length movie made up entirely of stand-up comedy, and it was produced and distributed independently. A double album from the same tour, Wanted: Live in Concert, was taped on other nights and shares much of the material heard in the film.
